The School of Motoring Lahore (SMILE) working on the theme of “How to make Pakistan a Safe Country to Live, Travel & Work” was tasked to conduct one day safety related activities at Karachi during June 2019.
The key note address was presented covering Pakistan, its safety state and urgent step needed to improve safety. Participants were reminded about the high standard of safety during their training and duties with its linkage to their responsibility of owing the works for safety of their own, their families and friends.
The guest speakers presented safety requirements with reference to their works and continuing efforts of their departments and teams for saving lives. They included:
Members of the Education Team of NH&MP for Right of Way, Defensive Driving and caring for other road users
Speaker from FPAP on urgency of managing fire and knowing equipment use through regular drills with every member of the house and community
Representatives of Aman Foundation on their services and plans highlighting the importance of training of their team coupled with effective monitoring of operations.
Hussaini Blood Services speaker talked about our very little knowledge about blood, its components and working of this life saving liquid.
Team of Atlas Honda Limited was there to talk about right handling and safe riding techniques with importance of safety kits
Speaker from Rescue1122 of Punjab informed the audience of development of this service and its growth to present state. Figures of accidents and lives saved by this service were explained too.
The participants were reminded about their responsibility toward the homeland, home and family. The teachers and instructors amongst the participants were briefed about their additional role and importance of personal example to set the pace right. Many of them were presented a book written by the architect of motorway police (Captain PIA Amjad Faizi) titled “Jab Badloon ga mein …. Tab Sirf Tab …. Badle Ga Pakistan”
Commitment from participants was taken on way forward through setting their work procedures right, developing a vision for their own family and put in all efforts on “How to make Pakistan A Safe Country to Live, Travel & Work” especially for the changing work environment due to CPEC and other mega projects.
The event was ended with presentation of shields, monthly accident data obtained from Rescue1122 write up on Safe Communities Pakistan and copy of magazine Mobile World to organizers and speakers.
Importance of roads in our life and our neglect of understanding Traffic Signs & Road Markings linked with very limited knowledge of Right of Way and Road Sense. Definition of safety and its importance in everyday life 24/7 was deliberated. Participants were reminded about our neglect towards our country, environment and aggravation of its effects due to missing Vision. Time not being managed by elders of home and society for training of generation next starting with your own and extended family members, the missing link of owning the responsibility of loving our country and caring for environment around you including savings of natural resources and creating awareness amongst generation next was inculcated.
State of safety on motorways, highways and other roads with increasing number of accidents, resulting to deaths, injuries and financial losses, mostly due to neglected sense of responsibility including not acquiring licenses or using personal protection equipment linked with very little knowledge of using safety equipment and non availability of emergency services were discussed in detail.
